High-risk pregnancy

A twin pregnancy complicated by pre-eclampsia — both babies safe

  • Intensive monitoring of mother and twins

She was expecting twins when she developed gestational hypertension with features of pre-eclampsia. Multiple pregnancies carry a higher risk of hypertensive disorders, so intensive monitoring of mother and babies became essential.

Her blood pressure and clinical condition were watched carefully, with laboratory tests — platelets, renal function, urine and proteinuria — whenever indicated. Both babies were followed with serial growth assessments, wellbeing evaluations, placental assessment and Doppler studies. In pregnancies like these, the aim is not simply to prolong the pregnancy but to strike the right balance: enough time for the babies to mature, while protecting the mother and her twins.

With close monitoring and adherence to the treatment plan, the pregnancy reached an appropriate stage for delivery, and the twins were born in good health. A high-risk pregnancy does not have to mean a poor outcome — careful follow-up, early diagnosis and timely intervention make a remarkable difference.
