What to expect when you come in

A first visit to a fertility or gynaecology clinic is rarely a relaxed occasion. Knowing what the building looks like, who you will meet and what will happen takes some of that away.

Your first appointment

Five steps, start to finish

  1. 1
    Before you come

Message on WhatsApp to arrange a time. Bring any previous test results, scan reports or letters you have — even old ones. If you are being seen about fertility, it helps if both partners come to the first appointment.

  2. 2
    Arriving

Reception will take your details and show you to the waiting area. Try to arrive a few minutes early for a first visit, as there is some paperwork.

  3. 3
    The consultation

A proper conversation first: your history, your concerns, and what you want from the visit. Examination and scanning happen after that discussion, not instead of it, and only with your agreement.

  4. 4
    Scanning

Most appointments include an ultrasound, done in the same room. You will see the screen and Dr. Layyous will explain what he is looking at as he goes.

  5. 5
    The plan

You leave knowing what was found, what the options are, what each involves, and what happens next. If tests are needed, you will be told why and when the results will be back.

International patients

Travelling to Jordan for treatment

A good number of patients travel from the Gulf and further afield. Treatment cycles have to be timed around your own cycle, so it is far easier to plan the trip around the treatment than the other way round.

Message the clinic before you book flights. You will be told roughly how many days you need to be in Amman, at which points, and what can be done before you travel.
